1. I learned many important things this term. Three of most important things I learned was, shading, art elements and mixing colors. I learned how to shade properly to make my pictures look more 3D. I learned about the 7 different art elements and what each one means.They are color, line, texture, shape, form, value and space. I learned all about primary colors and how you can mix them to make secondary colors. So we could make an art piece with only 3 colors and include orange, purple and green.


2. I really liked art class this year. I think I had a excellent attitude and a very good effort in art this term. Next term I will work even harder to do an even better job. I could do this by paying even more attention in the lesson. I think I will try to get even more work done in class. I could do that by trying to take my ideas and make them more simple since they are always so complex.  


3. I like working individually more than in a team. I love making pieces of art, but I enjoy the ones that are purely my ideas. I think of my ideas by mixing the task at hand with how I’m feeling then I add a little bit more. It is better to work in groups sometimes since it gives you the opportunity to get to know the person better and understand what type of art they like.


4. If I could choose the topic for the next term in art I would choose to learn about famous artist, what types of artwork they did (Sculptures, paintings, sketching etc,). I would also create a project in which each student will be assigned an artist and have to do a project about it. I would choose this because I simply think we should get a few lessons to focus on the artist of the art and less on the art itself.

Critical Analysis of an Artwork, "Sinking Ship"

The art piece, “Sinking Ship” by Erika Somogyi shows a girl sitting on a car in the water, she is outside in the middle of a forest. I the forest there are many trees around her and in the trees there are some birds. The water in the picture could be deep and is a very light color. The trees in the background are different colors, they are either a very light green or an extremely dark. This picture is looks like it is in the early morning in about 2008. The red, white, green and yellow dots make the picture look quite abstract although the idea is realistic. The picture shows a lot of character so needs more room that is why it is painted horizontally. These picture tells a story, it looks like the girl is stranded on the car and needs help but is still brave and calm.

This art piece uses many of the art elements we learned about in class.  It uses line, color, value, texture and form. The artwork’s line is in the tree trunks in the foreground and the ones in the background. They are smooth and straight. The artwork’s color was mostly in it’s dots. The color in the dots are gentle and curved. The artwork’s value is shown in the light change from the background directly behind the girl and the background nearer to the sides of the art. The artwork’s texture is shown in the trees. They are very soft and fragile. The artwork’s car shows form. It has a special 3D look. The artist, Erika Somogyi used the art elements to get our attention by showing joy in her artwork.

I think this artwork was telling a story about bravery and calmness. It makes me think about peace and the world when it was clean. The artist is saying “Whatever situation you may be in be brave and be calm”.  The picture makes you feel like the girl, calm. The artist tries to show contrast between the girl and the background that is why it is a lighter color. I think the artist wants you to think about peace and gentleness. The artwork reminds me of books I read which takes place in a wet rainforest. I am curious about how the artist got the idea of the girl on the car so if I could ask her something that is what it would be. This picture means calmness and bravery.

The best part of the work is the peacefulness it shows. The strengths are the dot in the picture. The weakness of the picture is light value in the water. The artwork communicated the idea calmness. I learned how the layered colors in a picture can show effect. I like the art because it also shows a girl having bravery which pictures don’t usually show. I would not hang this in my room since it can only express one feelings while a human's feelings change 24-7. I would because I simply like it. I really don’t dislike it at all. People see artwork in different ways depending on their, likes, dislikes and feelings.
